On our former site, Al and Tip told me what their favorite brand of Beef Jerky is since my son, Dominic, loves jerky and I was looking for a good one for him. Tip likes "Big John's" and Al likes "Cabela's", so I ordered regular beef jerky from Big John's, and from Cabela's I ordered their old fashioned beef and buffalo jerky.

Really, they were all exceptional. Big John's was easier to eat with their thinner strips; the beef and buffalo from Cabela's were thicker, and spicier, too--mostly the buffalo was spicier, but Dominic likes it that way sometimes, so all was good in Jerkyland for him. :)

I really loved Jerky up till I went to Philmont this past summer. When you are given jerky for breakfast and some lunch for 12 days in a row, and you tend to be quite hungry while hiking up mountains, jerky just doesn't quite do it for you.

Glad to hear about the Jerky Reviews though, they might come in handy after a few years when I get over the jerky herky...

Goat, you'll have to try turkey jerky ;-)

Just kidding, but it probably DOES exist.
I still favour Jack Link's.
and Beano.

I've had Turkey Jerky. It doesn't really do it for me.

Here is a list of the types of Jerky (not brands) that I've had.

Turkey
Beef
Aligator
Buffalo
Emu
Elk
Moose
Deer
Ostrich
Duck
Lamb
Kangaroo

You can also get some fish jerky, I've had salmon, but it really doesn't seem like jerky to me.

I loved the buffalo and ostrich jerky. Terriaki is nice as a change up. Aligator I could take or leave, though a lot depends on the spices you make it with.

I've made my own jerky and bought plenty.

Pemmican is another product that I think depends a lot on where you get it, what gets mixed in, spices. I've made that as well, but with more limited success. Its a lot of work, and if the batch comes out poor its really frustrating.

I'm especially intrigued by the alligator [Go Gators!] and the 'roo jerky.

Ex-wife #1 [who of late has begun to resemble Emeril Lagasse in drag] is 1/2 Japanese, and has alway enjoyed Japanese seafood products. Back in the really olden days [when we were young and she was cute] she was happily munching on squid jerky, and I went to kiss her; got so startled I jumped away - it was like kissing the cat!! Ick!!!

Another delicacy she enjoyed that I could not fathom was shrimp chips. Ick some more!!

Sick, man, just really sick.

I'll never "see" Emeril the same again.

Squid Jerky sounds as inviting as cod liver oil lip balm.
