The sole purpose of this thread is to track our new statistic, the FSHRC (Fake Sterling Home Run Call).

An FSHRC is awarded when an announcer goes into a home run call on a hit that is not a home run. It can be applied to any announcer but is named after the king of the FSHRC, John Sterling of the Yankees radio network.

Today, 4/20/2008: Sterling has 4 FSHRCs.

Let the fun begin.

Why does the greatest professional team in American sports history have such clowns for announcers?

Other than Paulie, they all deserve to lose their jobs.

As bad as they may seem, they're still better than the majority of baseball announcers today. That's scary, isn't it?

Totally agree with that.

I think that a network that is part of a team should show more bias toward their own team.

Kay just likes the sound of his voice, it puts him in thrall of it, and therefore keeps anything intellegent from leaking out.

For some reason he looks a bit different lately. Did he get Botox?

For the most part I like Sterling; he's a pretty engaging commentator who's fun to listen to and knows what he's talking about, though gets a bit repetitive when you listen to him every day.

But seriously, he needs new glasses, or perhaps some corrective eye surgery, on those long fly balls.

I concur - Sterling is generally amiable although I do tire of listening to him frequently. Kay, on the other hand, is a blowhard.

A bit repetitive? Sheesh, his hole broadcast seems to be made up of 5 phrases.

Okay, so 5 is just the first number that popped into my head, but you have no idea how refreshing it was for me to not have to listen to Sterling last year when I finally paid for mlb.tv. Although, I did listen to Saturday's game via radio and he wasn't that bad, so it probably is a "he's okay at first but gets old fast" kind of thing. Waldman is the one that really grates on me, though. I dunno, something about her voice that is like nails-on-the-chalkboard to me.

Ha ha - I'm thinking that the problem is they really don't know too much about baseball so they have to act like they do and wind up with, oh, I don't know, 5 phrases that they wrote down when in a jam! :-)

Susan was great when doing beat reporting for FAN but she is absolutely the worst analyst in the history of broadcasting. She hurts my ears. Sterling is just there for entertainment.

Add 1 for Hawk Harrelson, he was all excited - too bad Damon caught it.

Sterling, 4/24, 4th inning vs. the White Sox on Crede's long fly.

"It is high!...it is going to be caught by Matsui just in front of the wall."

Sterling, 5/1, on a fly by Detroit's Miguel Cabrera that hit the wall and bounded away from Abreu for an RBI triple.
