I don't know, to play devils advocate, maybe if injuries, line up changes, and candy bar issues unnerve a veteran team, we may have the wrong players? Hate the prima donna athlete that vacations in Hawaii for two months in the winter (while some freeze their tail off just to get out of their driveway and get to their $20. and hour factory job) who can't handle a little adversity playing a kids game and eating filet mignon every night. The contrast is startling.

I think it is ridiculous to think that line-up changes or candy bar issues unnerved the team. Injuries didn't unnerve the team, I don't think. They just left us short of the horses we needed (as I've already stated: Wang, Posada, Matsui). Some players mean more than others, and not all of what a player means to a club is measured in statistics.

Instead of just one wildcard team in each league, there would be two in each league. However, to make the division the ultimate goal, the two wildcard teams would have a one game playoff to decide the final spot. Not only does this keep more teams in it, but it promises a dramatic ending to every season.

I love that idea.
Not so much because of what happened this year, but because I love the drama. After the Twins-White Sox played in their 1 game playoff, I thought of that drama in that game. Both teams in a 1 game elimination to advance to the playoffs. It really gives some of the bubble teams something to play for down the stretch too. The Yankees quit pretty much the entire month of September. If there was an extra wild card for a 1 game playoff that wouldnt happen.

Extra revenue, too, so MLB might just go for the idea :-)
