Last night's game was certainly forgettable. I've almost done so, except for the ugly incident where David Price came up and in to Mark Teixeira, hitting him a glancing blow on the hand. At first, I thought was unintentional. The game was early, first inning, nothing untoward.

Then, the announcers reminded us all: Carlos Pena. CC hit him earlier this year. The ex-Yankee farmhand suffered a broken bone in his hand and is out for the season. CC also pitched last night's game..... Coincidence?

Hey - wait a minute! Remember Francisco Cervelli in Spring Training 2008? Most of the nation saw 2008 TB as a "feel good" story, lovable losers finally winning. "Feel good" my a$$. Joe Maddon has TB playing 1890's Temple Cup baseball. That's fine, when you win. Once. Good luck with that in the future, Joe. TB, good luck chasing 26. [Oops! Chasing # what is it? One. My bad]

So, Yankee Family, what to do?

I voted 2. There's no reason to start a bean ball competition with them. That will just get somebody hurt. In fact, I'd just fell more comfortable seeing the regulars get a lot of time off over the next two days.

The real blame in this lies with MLB, and Mr. Bob Watson. Remember the incident where Garza threw over a players head, and later admitted that he threw at him? How many games did he get for that? Exactly. Until MLB starts cracking down hard on these cheap shots, TB's thuggish behavior will continue.

Detractors will, of course, note that the Yankees have 3 starters among the league leaders in hit batsmen. But two of those, AJ and Joba, have shown bouts of wildness all year long. Obviously it's hard to avoid hitting people when you don't know where the ball is going.

Since Posada used his head as a battering ram in the Blue Jays brawl and consequently suffered from nagging neck stiffness, we certainly can't be taking our chances with retaliating now when we need our guys strong and healthy for the postseason. The Rays are just provoking us because they've got nothing to lose and we've got everything to gain. Besides, it irritates me that they would feel it necessary to go for this supposed eye-for-an-eye garbage when it was Carlos Pena who injured himself by turning into the pitch!

Wow - we're in unison on this one!
Good points, both of you.
Bob Watson is inconsistent in his enforcement... I can't even say totally anti-Yankee, because he DID let Shelley Duncan off the hook for brawling.
Joba and AJ, leading the league in hit batsmen. Figure the odds. [smirk]
Jorge using his head as a battering ram = exactly why we have to take proper care of our guys.

Now, about retribution.
Maybe we should award rings when TB is at NYS?
I'll be glad when they revert back to 100 loss shambles. That's the feel good story I would like to hear. It would make me feel good, anyway :-)
