Despite (or maybe because of) the slow starts by both the Red Sox and Yankees, the distance between 1st and last in the AL East is 1.5 games as of right now.

Right now, at least, nobody in the division is playing much off from .500 ball.

As I have stated in another topic, I believe this is due to the unusual cold weather many teams have been playing in. Across the leagues there are a lot of injuries that are due in large part to playing in the cold weather.

Baseball demands a lot of waiting and then quick acceleration. This cold weather causes muscles to tighten and stiffen, making the probability of injury go up dramatically. The Tigers have taken the biggest hit from this, and they are 2-10.

Molina's injury was from the cold weather. So was Jeter's. I also think it has something to do with the quiet bats of the Yankees. Hopefully they will go to Tampa and start getting it going. They looked better in KC when the weather was in the 60's.

I think if the Yankees can tread even through this month they will be in fine shape for the season.

The Blue Jays are going to put up a tough fight this year. That rotation along with some decent bats is not going to be a cakewalk.

The East is going to be a battle this year, and it might knock down the win totals of the whole east division. Even the Rays look pretty decent.

Timlin's ERA right now is 27!
Buchholz got bumped up to 6.75.
Santana is slightly better than Pettitte in his ERA, and he has 2 losses, 1 win, while Pettitte has 2 wins 1 loss.

Hang on tight, this is going to be a wild ride this year, I think.

Actually, Toronto and Baltimore are tied, .5 games back of Boston and New York.

Who would have thought that Baltimore would be up there this year? While I doubt it will last, still...

Yeah OG, anyone can have a good month or a few good weeks and look impressive in doing it. It all settles together in time.

With the suspensions that will be coming for the Rays and the Sox, along with the injuries both teams have, you have to wonder if the standings will be changing sooner rather than later.

Ortiz is out for at least a month. Manny has a hammy that is barking up. Cereal Boy will get at least a 3 game suspension (though, because he instigated the whole thing, he should get more). Speculation is that Gomes gets 8-10 games. Lester and Shields might get 5 games each because of them being starters.

Dicey K is on the Dl with soreness (strained) shoulder problems.

Youk and Manny had a tiff.

Somedays are just too good to be true.
