So, I noticed that mlb.com has put out a list of the top 100 fantasy players for next season. And coming in at #39 (if I counted right), was a Mr. Ellsbury.

Say what?!?!!!!!!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't he have a less-than-impressive year last season? What makes him a top 40 fantasy player? Help me out here, people; this is really boggling my mind. Can somebody explain this?

See the rankings here.

Well, I think SBs count a bit disproportionately in fantasy leagues. So that might be part of where it's coming from.

It says he led the league with 50 steals in 08 so I think Karl is right. Speed is always a problem in fantasy leagues which could explain why he's ranked higher than closers like Papelbon and Nathan.

It could also be the thought that he was suffering from the sophomore slump and they think he will bounce back.
