Talk of the Beatles, liking them or not, got me inspired to start this thread. (Anybody know the song that the Subject line comes from? Anybody? I'll give you a hint: Band initials = I.S).

Anyhoo, here are 5 of my current favorites, not necessarily in order.

1) La Oreja de Van Gogh (band out of Spain)
2) Tonic
3) Amaiah Montero (former lead singer of La Oreja de Van Gogh, has now gone solo)
4) Emerson Hart (former front man of Tonic, now gone solo)
5) Rob Thomas

Favorite "older" bands:

Fleetwood Mac
ABBA

What about the rest of you?

Well, this is going to be completely chaotic [and, you already know I like the Beatles]....
[] Brother, a band of brothers, Scotsmen from Australia living in California playing bagpipes and didgideroo plus guitar, bass and drums
[] Glengarry Bhoys - similar to Brother, plus fiddle, minus the didg
[] Gaelic Storm - the band from the movie, Titanic. Funny, and good as well.
[] Brian Curran and Folknbluesgrass - house band at Broadway Oyster Bar in Saint Looey.... looks like Stevie Ray, nice blues and such
[] Hudson and the Hoo Doo Cats - modern Rockabilly.... just a fun time for all!

Sixties:
[] Beatles, of course
[] Yardbirds..... electric blues. Clapton, Beck, Jimmy Page on lead, in succession. Wow!
[] The Animals. Modern soul. Eric Burdon has such a great voice.....
[] The Doors. Celebrate the Lizard King.
[] Jimi Hendrix..... words fail to adequately describe......

Blues:
[] Robert Johnson. Really DID go down to the crossroads and hand Papa Legba his guitar.....
[] Howlin' Wolf. Crazy, solid performer. What personality!
[] Rice Miller [Sonny Boy Willimason II] - man, that dude could WAIL!
[] Muddy Waters....go rent Cadillac Records, the movie. Put in on, turn it up.

Good topic, Rob!

I can't believe I left off a band!

One of my favorites also includes a band out of Vegas: The Killers.

I really didn't like them at first, but they grew on me.

And, Chuck, I haven't even heard of most of yours!

;-) Time to google 'em! [and, I will do the same - always good to find new bands to like!]

Rob, I messed up your post! I went to reply to something you said, but I accidentally clicked on "edit" instead of "quote" and now I had to delete it. I'm sorry. :-(
------------------------------
I think this post was where I said something about recognizing all of Chuck's 60's bands. Then I said I liked Louis Armstrong and Bing Crosby. ("Gone Fishin': great duet with the two of them.)

Then I said that if I was a pro ball player I would probably have Tonic's "Open up your eyes" off their Lemon Parade album as my "step to the plate" song.

I think that about covers it.

Now stop messing with my posts, Charmaine!!!!

I'll wait a bit before I give the answer. We'll see if anybody else can get it.

C'mon Charmaine, you're list can't be that bad. Share! Share!

Anyway, Rob? You had mentioned liking Tonic's "Open Up Your Eyes" and thought it would be a cool walking-to-the-plate song if you were a major league player, so I was saying that I never heard of them, and surprisingly neither had my 17 yr. old daughter who is into '90s rock. Just gave it a listen on YouTube and liked it mucho.

Also, I had said I love Fleetwood Mac--saw them in concert when they released "Say You Will". Lindsay Buckingham is in my fantasy league, too. lol
Well, he's an awesome guitarist. :-)

Tonic's most popular song was "If you could only see," which just happens to be one of my least favorite of their songs. Does she know that one?

I saw Tonic in concert in Cedar City, Utah. My brother was attending SUU and they performed there, so we went. Emerson Hart, at one point, jumped down from the stage and went out into the crowd...and didn't start a riot. They had started out the show acting very not-so-happy to be there (I mean, c'mon, Cedar City?!?!?). But by the time he had jumped off the stage, they seemed to be really enjoying themselves and appreciating the fact that there were people who could enjoy a good concert without losing control of themselves.

Bingo! We both know that one. Lots of times I recognize songs but never knew what the song title was or who the band was. And you are so not the romantic, Rob. Why don't you like that one, lyrics too sappy for you? Pfft.

Working my way down the list...

Ella es muy bonita. No wonder you like her. I imagine Jorge does, too.

I.S.?
Ink Spots?

Charmaine, I'll venture that I enjoy Edith Piaf if that will help you loosen up some names beyond Fleetwood Mac :-)

Walkin' to the plate music?
Hendrix, "All Along the Watchtower"
Pause, scoop some dirt, let the song play....

With the exception of the Beatles, I've seen the rest live. Also seen Iron Butterfly, Nazereth, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, Tom Petty, Alice Cooper, Dizzie Gillespie... any of which could fill in behind the top ten...

Quite a set list, Al [good stuff, I might add!]
Who didja like best live?

I liked Tom Petty's recent effort "Mudcrutch"... I thought it was awesome he got his ol' band from Gainesville
back together, and I loved the sound [especially "Shady Grove" and "Lover of the Bayou"] :-)
