Well, we're in the middle of the second game against the Jays, and everybody's MIA. Must be partying a lot more than I this weekend.

Good start in this series for the Yankees. They won 4-2 yesterday, and lead Halladay and the Jays 3-2 right now. It could be more, if Cano wasn't grounding out on the first pitch everytime he is at bat with RISP. 0 for his last 18 with RISP. They've got to get him out of the 5th spot.

Anyway, it's always nice to see the Yankees with 3 runs and the lead against Halladay. That isn't something we see too often. And with Wang pitching, no less!

Here's hoping the Yankees hold on to this one.

Happy Fourth of July!!

Wang gave up a 2 run homer, and then was removed from the game. He walked off the mound with the trainer; seems kind of strange.

Robertson came in and proceeded to walk the next two guys. Pete Abe loves this guy. I'm not so high on him. He has had some limited success, but walking two straight and then falling behind Vernon Wells isn't encouraging.

4-3, even against Halladay, is doable. But if Robertson chokes away a few more runs, then it makes it certainly more difficult to come back with Halladay on the mound.

Wang was removed with a neck/shoulder injury. Shoulder, huh. Uh oh.

He had matched his season high with 5 1/3 innings before he was removed.

Bruney was pretty shaky, too, when he pitched the seventh, but he managed to squeak out of a bases-loaded jam with no runs. He gave up back-to-back singles to start the inning; Toronto sac bunted the runners over; intentional walk to load the bases; pop up; liner right to Cano.

Jeter then led off the bottom of the 3rd with a single, and the Demon blasted one into the right field seats to tie the game. 3 Homeruns against Halladay; bet he says something negative about Yankee Stadium after the game.

Wang off the hook, as the offense is able to erase Robertson's crappy pitching.

Cano is really starting to piss me off. After Damon tied the game, and Teixeira ground out, A-Rod got a single. Can proceeds to ground into a DP on the second pitch. But, hey, at least it wasn't the first pitch again!

Girardi is a stubborn fool. Anybody with a brain can tell that it is past time to remove Cano from the 5th spot until he can show he's capable of hitting with men on base again.

Cano had a great chance to win it in the bottom of the 9th with runners on 1st and 2nd; but, of course, he couldn't do it.

Every inning in this game has been ended by an out from Cano or Gardner. Every one. Jeter and Posada have led off every inning for the Yankees, Jeter the odd and Posada the even.

With Jeter on first and 1 out in the 9th, Teixeira came to the plate. The Jays put on a major shift. Rolen, 3B, was standing behind 2nd base. The SS was in the 2B position, second baseman was playing the 1B position, and Overbay was on the 1B bag holding Jeter. So you would think, with the left side completely clear, that Teixeira would try and bunt one, or slap it, that direction. Nope, tried to pull the ball, going for a homer all the way. If he had bunted, they probably have 1st and 2nd with A-Rod up. Maybe it would be 1st and 3rd. So what if the still walk A-Rod. Then Cano's up with 1 out instead of 2; and, barring a DP, they have two shots at it instead of one with RISP.

Hey, Yankees Win! Despite Cano's best efforts...

We'll see how bad Wang's injury is. It'll be interesting to see who fills his spot if he's out for any period of time.

Otherwise, happy 4th of July, happly birthdays to George Steinbrenner and John Sterling, and happy 1 game out of first place!

Wang is going on the DL. The Yankees hope to have him back in a month. I would think that they would bring somebody up tomorrow to help in the bullpen and then worry about Thursday's starter down the road. Pete Abe doesn't seem to think that it will be Hughes or Aceves, since they aren't stretched out. I think I agree with that. You could plan on, perhaps, using Huges for 3, Aceves for 3, and then go from there, but that would impact your pen for multiple days, since it would mean neither Hughes or Aceves would be available on Wednesday or Friday, at the least. No, they'll have to call somebody up.

One other thought about the game: it really bothered me to see the Yankees wearing red caps. Yeah, I know, one weekend only promotional thing. But what's wrong with wearing blue caps with the stars and stripes NY logo? Didn't they do that once before?

July 5: Game 3 vs. Jays

I missed a lot of the early innings in this one, but there has been a lot of scoring. Jays 8, Yankees 10 in the top of the 8th. 5 of the Jays runs were unearned, scoring after two outs in the 4th when an error had allowed a base runner to reach earlier in the inning. Ugly game, it seems.

While perusing the box score to "catch up," I noticed this interesting stat. Yankees at the plate with RISP: 6-12. Wait a minute, that can't be right! 6-12 is a .500 average! The Yankees can't hit with RISP, so how did that happen?

In part, I'm sure it has something to with the fact that Girardi, finally, put Matsui in the 5 spot and Cano in the 7th. He has gone 2-4 today, but no runs or RBI.

Posada batting clean up and Matsui batting 5th have 7 RBI between them. Now that's how those two spots are supposed to produce.

Aceves not only shutting down the Jays in relief, he's flashing the leather in the 8th. He made two great plays; the first came with no outs and a runner on first as he fielded the ball and gunned it to second to get the leading runner. The second came with two outs as he bare-handed the ball off a bunt-single attempt and fired to first to barely nail Scutaro. This guy was a great pick up.

Hallelujah, has Girardi FINALLY seen the light?

We can only hope...

Nice to see the offense pick up a struggling starter, and wow, Aceves' outing must have been brilliant. He saved the bullpen, which they needed.

So it looks as if Sergio Mitre will be the one to replace Wang. I remember him vaguely from his days with the Cubs, and thought that he had some talent. We'll see how that works out.

The 3 Yanks who deserved all-star spots all got them, two of them as starters, which is good to see.

Lots of costly close calls so far in this game.

That's for sure. In the 3rd inning, if the umpire makes the right call on Hill at 2nd base, then the inning is over after the Rolen strike out. Instead, Rios comes to the plate and hits a 3 run homer.

Instead of 1-0, it's 4-0.
