Pedro vs. the Yankees in the World Series. Seems kind of strange.

I'm like the idea of Hairston starting. I'd rather he be out there than Hinske. Sure, Hinske can run into one, but he can't play anywhere near as well defensively as Hairston. Of course, I'd rather see Gardner in center and Melky in right, but Girardi isn't going to lose his best pinch-runner.

Here's hoping we see good AJ tonight. Before the Series started, I kept hearing and reading that the "free swinging" Phillies line up would help AJ out a lot. But, last night, there wasn't much free swinging going on by Phillies. If they are patient and wait him out, I'm afraid that AJ will end up walking a lot of guys.

Looks like the good AJ so far.

After last night, this must be the happiest a team has ever been to face Pedro.

And as I say that, no balls leave the infield.

Pedro Martinez almost struck out the side.

Think about that. 6 years ago, to say that wouldn't be so ludicrous. To say that now?

Yankees still getting themselves out. I mean, c'mon, how does Jeter swing through an 88 mph "fastball"? But at least they made Pedro throw some pitches: 17 in the 1st.

I'm trying to decide. Who do I hate more: Pedro or that guy who pitches for the Twins who shall remain nameless? I think I'll go with the second guy, only because he hurt the Yankees while "playing" for them (and of course I use the word 'playing' very loosely there).

At least they beat that other guy, even though it required Andy pitching a gem to do so. I'd think you would hate Pedro more if he wins tonight, since this game means a lot more.

Speaking of Pedro:

I for one did not like hearing the "who's your daddy chants" before he had even thrown a pitch. They should save that until he actually gives up a run. Or at least a hit.

I'd rank them this way (pitchers only here):

5. Johnson
4. Pedro
3. Kevin Brown
2. He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named
1. Schi**ing

Naw, if Pedro beats them, I'll just have to tip my cap to him, and say...no, let's not go there. ;)

Seriously, if he beats them, sure it will suck. I'll hate it. But it won't change my dislike for the guy. I dislike him because I think he's a scumbag. It really doesn't have all that much to do with what he's done against my team (though I can't deny that it's part of it).

At least Kevin Brown never beat the Yankees in an important game. I'd replace him with Buckett, as hard as it is to dismiss the starting pitcher of arguably the most infamous Yankee game in history.

Yeah, that one game really kills Brown. Though he gets some credit for the wall-punching incident, too.

I definitely agree that you could make a case for Buckett. He should probably be ahead of RJ, at the very least.

Mine would go:

6. Kevin Brown
5. Johnson
4. Buckett
3. Schi**ing
2. Pedro
1. He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named: I have to put him here because of what he did to my team by NOT playing. It's sort of like a guy who walks a bunch of people vs. a guy who gives up a lot of hits. Free passes are inexcusable. Hits...that happens sometimes.

I had to move Kevin Brown down on the list because at least he tried. He only makes #6 because of the infamous punching a wall incident.

Unbelievable. 2 outs, cruising along...and now the Yankees are suddenly losing again.

The 3rd out is becoming elusive once again.

Oh joy.

I didn't realize that Matt Stairs was still alive until a few days ago, when he drew that walk.

Who says he's still alive?
