I remember last year a lot of people were wanting to see a change in the managers position.

Well, the wish was granted and the results are not exactly spectacular.

I don't think things are all that well in the Yankee clubhouse as we are lead to believe. Mussina gives jabs at Girardi regarding ice cream and snacks. Posada is testy over being placed as DH and at first.

The Yankees are playing uninspired baseball. The bats are poor, the lineup changes seem to take any momentum out of a struggling team. The whole 'stache deal seems like it is coming off as desperation to grab some levity in a season that is faultering and sputtering.

This team isn't really all that fun to watch this year. They seem to roll up and play dead when any team scores first against them. Timely hits rarely happen.

The injuries keep mounting, but it seems that it is far more than injuries to players that is keeping the whole team stuck in neutral.

Abreu hasn't come back to hitting ever since lining one to that pitchers face. Jeter is becoming Mr. GIDP. A-Rod is swinging well at garbage pitches. Gardner can't seem to buy a hit. Posada mostly takes weak hacks. Cano is batting better but there is no one around him that is. Melky has disappeared with his bat for the most part.

Girardi keeps acting as if things are fine, but they aren't. This isn't looking like any kind of team. They aren't getting into any kind of groove.

The pitching is doing well. For now, then as it stinks up the place then the bats will do better.

It just doesn't make much sense when you look at the talents on this team. A team that ended up doing well enough for their bad start last year. Maybe its just that they are too old to have the passion. Maybe its the leadership. Maybe its the need for some decent kind of trade to bring fresh excitement rather than dusting off castoffs. I don't know.

I am finding that more and more I just turn off the game and go do something else this year.

As you know, I wasn't in favor of Girardi taking over the team. So far I have seen nothing that he has brought to the team to change my mind that this was a bad move. His lineups and dictatorial style could be undermining all that team had going for it. Or it could be that this is just a poorly put together team.

Either way, its hard to give much support to THIS team. Its hard to see the Yankees closing out the great stadium with a whimper and a sigh.

I agree 100%, Goat.

We'll see what this club has in them, because it's not over, but I'm not sure there's any reason I should be all that confident.

Girardi has been less than impressive.

Torre never should've been let go, but maybe the same thing happens under him.

Because it's the players as much as anything.

They just don't look like winners.

The question, if not Girardi, then who should take over? There just isn't a guy waiting around and waiting to take over for managing the New York Yankees. And if there is, I can't imagine him not taking any heat for a questionable decision here. That's unavoidable in New York, unless you get off to a great start, which hasn't happened in about five years.

This team seems to at least tread water when healthy, but they haven't picked up the slack so well when a player goes down. They would at least have an average offense with Matsui and Damon in there now, but the fill-ins just haven't done much. Those are big shoes to fill, but they're fillable for the short term.

As much as some of the criticism about Joe G is valid, I'd say give the guy at least 2009 before making any secure judgments on his term as Yankee manager.

I would say the guy has some legit abilities as a manager that a year of young player disappointments, veteran injuries and under achievements can't possibly reveal a true picture of what he can do.

One year may not be an accurate window. Half a year isn't even a window cracked.

I just think that Girardi is over his head. He has made 71 different lineups. That is a lot. Yes there have been injuries, but I just don't think the clubhouse is a very stable one under him. He comes off as petulant in news conferences, and that can't play off well with veteran players like he has.

He will be given some time in the role, but I am not a fan of him and his ways of managing this club.

I just really don't like him as manager.

It's hard for me to say this, but I'm not so confident on THIS team right now. I remember last year, I NEVER have any doubt that THAT team would make the playoffs. That team, of course, included Mr. Joe Torre.
This season, as Jeter said, the only consistency is the inconsistency. And that won't lead us to the post season. A shame, since this is the Final Season. Sad, but true. We won't make the playoffs for the first time in almost 15 years.

Some of this lack luster team falls on Cashman.

I have to wonder if Girardi has also taken some fire out of the veteran players with his style of managing.

I don't have confidence in the Yankees making the playoffs. If they do its more because a number of teams stink this year, over it being that the Yankees are a good team.

Too many cast offs playing a role. Sometimes a trade for a good player can lift the whole team. Sometimes the lack of making any move in an effort to improve the team can kill even the most ardent player.
