Derek Jeter is on the bench with a cold on his 35th birthday, but the Yankees are making up for his absence just fine, with 4 runs so far in the 2nd. The Mets are looking awful defensively, and even CC's getting into the offensive act.

How about Ramiro Pena filling in for the Captain? Just hit his second double in as many at bats.

Yuck. CC leaves one over the plate and Sheffield, of all people, breaks up the perfect game, no-hitter, and shut out with one swing.

Meanwhile the Braves have had a hard time scoring runs since they knocked out Pettitte last night.

And Cervelli is catching again? What do we make of that?

There was an explanation, which I have forgotten.

Nothing is seriously wrong with Posada, though; I would've remembered that.

I know a number of pitchers don't like throwing to Jorge, CC being one I think. Cervelli's a nice shot in the arm but it's hard to keep Posada's bat out of the lineup.

Maybe Beckett has something to do with that tonight?

I was half paying attention...so what's the reason they're wearing maroon?

Gotta love it when a reliever with a 7+ ERA is able to keep the Yankees so off balance.

Yeah, I know, 4 run inning in the 2nd. But other than that inning (which was aided by a lot of errors) the offense hasn't done much at all. Color me unimpressed.

Yeah, Sterling was noted that the only hard-hit ball in the 4-run inning was Sabathia's single.

Here's a good chance for more, though.

Well, from an April 4th article, this may explain:

Quote:
Packs of fans stopped on their way into Citi Field Saturday to snap pictures of the steaming stack of brick and rubbish that once was Shea. And then, as if participating in some sort of cleansing ritual, they turned away from bad memories and twisted karma and entered gates designed to open into a brand new world.

"Maybe that's good, if we start fresh," said New York Mets shortstop Jose Reyes. "Maybe better things will happen to us over here."

Citi Field is more than a beautiful ballpark built in the heart of Queens. It has the requisite broad concourses and fancy food and baseball tributes, including a rotunda dedicated to Jackie Robinson. It doesn't have much connection to the club's colorful past, unless you count the team's obsession with marketing gimmicks and corporate ties. Even the ushers are clothed in an odd assemble of green and maroon, offering no link to the Mets' colors of Dodger blue and Giants orange.

But if the Mets hope to begin anew maybe this is how it has to be, with the slate wiped completely raw.

He was wondering the same thing - there is no reason apparently. He mentioned the vendors wearing different colors so they didn't blend in with the crowd but the grounds crew doesn't have that problem. They're just weird I guess. My buddy makes me laugh -- every time he mentions this place he calls it ShittiField. Just had to say that.
